Get Up With It A Miles Davis Centennial Celebration – In A Silent Way

May 21 @ 8:00 pm
$35 – $40

With its roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, the collective ensemble Get Up With It has been exploring the electric music of Miles Davis since the late 90s. Best known as the drummer for the Grammy-winning, Philly-born rock band The War on Drugs, Charlie Hall is also a professed Miles Davis fanatic who formed Get Up With It to pay homage to the iconic trumpeter’s groundbreaking electric music.

Now in its third decade, the adventurous ensemble will focus on three of Miles’ most revered and influential albums during this three-night residency. The run kicks off with 1969’s In a Silent Way, the album that inaugurated Davis’ long-controversial, now-heralded electric period. PItchfork has called the album, “a beacon of uncanny originality and visionary foresight.” The series continues with the 1970 magnum opus Bitches Brew, which has come to be celebrated as one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Guitarist John McLaughlin has referred to Bitches Brew as “Picasso in sound.” The series concludes with 1971’s Jack Johnson, which originated as the soundtrack to Bill Cayton’s documentary on the famed boxer. The Guardian has called the resulting album “one of the most remarkable jazz-rock discs of the era.”
