Marshall Allen’s Ghost Horizons with Angel Bat Dawid

Still traveling the spaceways after 101 years on the planet, the indefatigable Maestro Marshall Allen remains a brilliant imaginative force whose life has spanned nearly the entire history of jazz. A key member of the Sun Ra Arkestra for more than six decades and its dauntless leader for the last quarter century, Allen has kept the iconic bandleader’s cosmic torch blazing brightly while forging a path through the spaceways as a singular voice on the alto saxophone and Electronic Wind Instrument (EWI). Allen has led a number of diverse incarnations of his Ghost Horizons band with guitarist DM Hotep at Solar Myth over the last few years.

This month, in conjunction with the new exhibition The Living Temple: The World of Moki Cherry, Allen will be joined by the composer, clarinetist, singer & spiritual jazz soothsayer Angel Bat Dawid. A powerful meditation on memory, mythology, and ancestral science, her music blends spiritual jazz, celestial electronics, ancestral instrumentation, and storytelling to imagine futures grounded in ancient knowing.
