DESCRIPTION:Bryan Day & Toshi Makihara duo: \nBryan Day is a sound artist\, instrument inventor\, and conceptual artist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Using scavenged electronics\, repurposed mechanical components\, and amplified materials\, he reimagines them as constructivist sound sculptures. Since the late 1990s\, he has built over a hundred sound devices ranging from amplified measuring tapes and hacked radio transceivers to electromechanical installations using magnets\, hard drives\, and pendulums.His recorded work spans noisy electroacoustic improvisation\, droning minimalism\, and audio collage\, featured in projects such as Euphotic\, Collision Stories\, and Seeded Plain. He has performed\, taught workshops\, and built sound installations across Europe\, Asia\, and the Americas. By day\, he works as a museum exhibit and software developer at the Exploratorium in San Francisco.Since 1997\, Day has run the new music label Public Eyesore and its sister label Eh?\, producing over 300 albums of improvised and experimental music by artists from around the world. He has organized tours for American artists in Japan and curated events at venues including Canessa Gallery\, Meridian Gallery\, Clawfoot House\, Tiptop Haus\, and The Magic Theatre.Day also leads invented instrument–building workshops\, both to create instruments of his own design and to guide participants in building freeform sound objects from repurposed materials. His designs include the Whiskerphone\, Rotowhisker\, Sonic Marionette\, Sound Mouse\, Junk Kalimba\, and various circuit-bent instruments. \nToshi Makihara pursues non-idiomatic free improvised music using percussion and found objects / sound sites. Makihara studied drums and improvisation with Sabu Toyozumi and Butoh with the master Kazuo Ohno in Tokyo. His approach to free improvisation is founded on the process of “Becoming the Sound” without seeking any particular accomplishment. \nDel Rossi Trio: \n“Listening to Del Rossi Trio\, I thought of landscapes: particularly\, the way they seem to subtly shift and change when viewed from tens of thousands of feet in flight\, presenting the persistent illusion of stillness despite the fact of infinite intricate activity taking place (not to mention the fact that you’re moving at hundreds of miles an hour all the while). The trio\, composed of droning harmonium\, cello and bass clarinet\, played two long\, meditative pieces: this was eyes-closed music\, drifting slowly in and out of consonance\, wide-open modal harmonies inching toward tension and rich\, crazy clusters of notes and harmonic traffic jams. On the other hand\, is any implement used in the making of music therefore an instrument—the enormous hammer in Mahler’s Symphony no. 6\, cannons in Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture\, and even the slow snapping of plywood in Saltwater Lung by contemporary composer J.L Marlor? Are the performers in “Here be Sirens” by Pulitzer Prize finalist Kate Soper “playing” the piano when instead of striking the strings to make them produce sound\, they use their own voices\, screaming into the instrument to create sympathetic resonance? \nExtended Techniques\, Abbreviated is an exploration of what instrumental performance can be\, featuring a variety of pieces. Each performance will toy with our conceptions of what a musical “instrument” is and how that instrument is “played.” Through improvisation and composition\, various objects and novel frameworks\, Extended Techniques\, Abbreviated interrogates the way we make music\, approaching the process in novel ways.

DESCRIPTION:Dialogues: A Conversation and Performance is a series of events in which we invite someone to discuss their creative process and present an aspect or aspects of their work. For the eighth edition we present violinist and composer Kaethe Hostetter. \nHaving spent more than two decades immersed in Ethiopian music — including eleven years living in Addis Ababa as well as leading the highly acclaimed band Qwanqwa\, Kaethe is now performing a solo show called Woradj Alle (Impressions of Ethiopia) which is also the title of her debut solo album. \nBuilt from live-looped violin and electronics\, the album unfolds as a ritual performance: hypnotic\, textural\, and immersive—Ethiopian melodic systems refract through dub minimalism\, psych abstraction\, and avant improvisation. Not fusion\, but more transmission— music that blurs memory\, place\, and time. Each composition functions as a vignette: portraits of people\, fleeting encounters\, and atmospheres from the years she called Ethiopia home. \nA conversation with the artist will follow the performance. \nThis event is part of the 2026 Philly Fringe Festival.

SUMMARY:Trio Nebbia
DESCRIPTION:Trio Nebbia consists of Ji Hye Jung (percussion)\, Winston Choi (piano)\, and Geoffrey Deibel (saxophone). These three internationally acclaimed soloists combine three instruments less commonly heard together in the concert hall than in the jazz club\, offering a stunning array of sound worlds from the subtly nuanced to the unbridled and radical\, and providing a comprehensive sonic palate that can adapt to the vision of any composer. The trio met and began performing together regularly at the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Italy (one of the premiere summer programs for contemporary music in the world) and decided to begin concertizing regularly in 2019. The trio members are all also active educators in the United States\, teaching at Vanderbilt University\, Roosevelt University\, and Florida State University respectively. Jung is regarded as the world’s finest marimba player\, winning the world’s top two competitions for the instrument. Praised as “spectacular” by the Los Angeles Times and “extraordinary” by the Ventura County Star\, the Times describes her as “a centered player who can give the impression of being very still yet at all places at once.” Choi is chair of the piano department at Roosevelt University. For over twenty-five years\, he has been one of the most in-demand pianists in contemporary music and has won the prestigious Orleans Piano Competition; a recent recording by Choi was given five stars by BBC Music Magazine. Deibel was a first prize winner in both the Fischoff and the NASA Quartet competitions with the h2 quartet\, and has premiered hundreds of works for his instrument by both established and emerging composers. Trio Nebbia has premiered music by Georges Aperghis and Jean-Patrick Besingrand\, and will give the premiere of a new work written for the ensemble by Pulitzer Prize winner and McArthur Genius Grant winner Tyshawn Sorey in 2025.

DESCRIPTION:Bowerbird is pleased to present cellist T.J. Borden and pianist Mari Kawamura performing Morton Feldman’s evening length work Patterns in a Chromatic Field. Written in the last decade of his life\, this work is a unique example of his late style\, known for long durations and unpredictable repetition. In his maturity\, we find Feldman exploring different ways that ambiguity catalyzes performer interpretation and invites contemplation on the nature of the listener’s perception. Microtonal shadings ring against the equal tempered piano\, creating complex rhythmic constellations that drift slowly through the air. \n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nTyler J. Borden is a cellist working with\, in\, and around the constraints of the cello. Formerly from Western NY\, he is now based in Brooklyn NY\, where he spends much of his time finding ways to exploit the strengths and failures of himself and his instrument. Hailed for his “technically polished playing” (Jan Jezioro\, Artvoice) as well as his “astounding performances of superlatively difficult modernist solo works” (Edge of the Center)\, he is a dedicated purveyor of modern and experimental music. \nMari Kawamura is a concert pianist whose curiosity and wide-ranging interests have taken her in a variety of directions. Kawamura is drawn to music which utilizes the entirety of the piano as an expressive device\, enjoying equally music which showcases its tremendous agility\, and its ability to produce spacious resonances.

SUMMARY:Mir Naqibul Islam - Tabla Waves: A New Sound
DESCRIPTION:Mir Naqibul Islam: \nMir Naqibul Islam (b. 1989 in Dhaka\, Bangladesh) is a New York based tabla player from the farukhabad gharana. He has trained in the traditional guru-shishya parampara pedagogical convention of North Indian classical music from Pandit Ashoke Paul\, a disciple of the great Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh. Mir began learning tabla at the age of seven from Pt. Madan Gopal Das at Chhayanaut\, a renowned music school in Dhaka\, and completed a six-year-long course from 1996 to 2001. Thereafter\, he continued onto advanced tabla studies with Pandit Ashoke Paul from the farukhabad gharana. During 2010–2012\, he also received training in the benaras gharana of tabla from Pandit Gopal Mishra at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Center in Dhaka. Mir was also connected to the Bengal Parampara Sangeetlaya (BPS)\, Dhaka as a music scholar from 2014–2016 under Guru Padma Shri Pandit Suresh Talwalkar and received training in the delhi gharana of tabla during this time. Currently\, Mir is continuing his advanced tabla studies with the legendary maestro Pandit Anindo Chatterjee. \nMir regularly performs tabla solo recitals in addition to accompanying vocalists\, instrumentalists\, and dancers from South Asian traditions including Hindustani and Bengali classical and semi-classical forms. He has received international acclaim for his performances for diverse audiences across Bangladesh\, India\, and the US. He has performed with world renowned musicians such as Pandit Krishna Mohan Bhatt\, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya\, Pandit Anirban Dasgupta\, Pandit Steve Gorn\, Vidushi Bharati Pratap\, Gyan Riley\, Ben Monder\, and Premik Russel among others. He has been an active member of the New York based musicians collective Brooklyn Raga Massive since 2016\, playing a key role in experimental and genre crossing projects with the collective throughout. \nTabla Waves: A New Sound is a contemporary reimagining of the traditional tabla solo. Rooted in the centuries-old rhythmic traditions of North Indian classical music\, Mir Naqibul Islam explores the tabla through new sonic perspectives\, drawing from electronic music\, improvisation\, jazz\, folk traditions\, and other contemporary influences. DESCRIPTION:Bowerbird is pleased to present THUMBS at The Rotunda with an opening set by Aaron Pond’s Himflation. \nPerforming as the duo Thumbs\, multi-reedists David Leon and Yuma Uesaka have developed a peculiar improvised practice. Built around a shared interest in extended timbres and hairpin counterpoint\, their music explores extremes: quiet and loud\, dense and desolate\, serious and silly. \n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS \nYuma Uesaka is a Japanese-American saxophonist\, clarinetist\, improviser\, performer\, and composer based in New York City since 2014. Over the last decade\, Yuma has contributed to scenes that embrace various experimental and historic practices primarily rooted in jazz\, creative improvised music\, and new music. His music often explores the fringes of instrumental and compositional techniques to question traditional musical roles and deconstruct assumed binaries of improvised/composed\, acoustic/electronic\, and music/noise. An active sideperson\, Yuma has performed in groups led by Anna Webber\, Lesley Mok\, and DoYeon Kim\, at venues such as Roulette\, National Sawdust\, and The Jazz Gallery. As a composer\, he has received recognition from the ASCAP Foundation\, Metropolis\, and Either/Or Ensemble. \nDavid Leon is a Cuban-American saxophonist\, woodwinds player\, composer\, and improviser living in Brooklyn\, New York. His work is guided by a persistent search for vitality through autonomy\, contradiction\, hyperbole\, and humor. His work with the saxophone investigates alternate methods for producing a tone\, refinement of these techniques\, and development of a distinct vocabulary using these sounds; he melds this timbral approach with melodic and rhythmic phrasing from Cuban folkloric traditions\, narrative playing\, Free Jazz & avant-garde esthetics\, and microtonality to reveal a personal conceit. In 2024\, David was named a Music Composition Fellow by the CINTAS Foundation and was awarded a Jerome Commission by Roulette Intermedium to support the creation of A Divine Echo\, a hybrid work of chamber music and wordless puppet theatre. In April 2025\, he will present a new solo work for amplified saxophone and electronics as part of his Roulette 2024/2025 Jerome Artist Residency. Over the last decade\, she has primarily been a musician\, puppeteer and street performer with several political theaters including Bread and Puppet Theater and Redwing Blackbird Theater. \nTracy Chahwan is a cartoonist and illustrator from Lebanon. She started her career in Beirut\, producing street art and posters for local independent music venues and working with comics collectives publishing experimental comics and anthologies. In 2018\, she published her first graphic novel “Beirut Bloody Beirut”\, a story of two girls lost in the Beiruti night. After the Lebanese revolution in October 2019\, she turned to journalistic comics\, collaborating in books such as “Guantanamo Voices” and “Where to Marie? Stories of Feminisms in Lebanon”. Tracy’s work is marked by the radical and collaborative energy of the artistic scene in Beirut\, where she worked actively the past years before she moved to the U.S. in 2019. \nErik Ruin is a Michigan-raised\, Philadelphia-based printmaker\, shadow puppeteer\, paper-cut artist\, etc.\, who has been lauded by the New York Times for his “spell-binding cut-paper animations.” His work oscillates between the poles of apocalyptic anxieties and utopian yearnings\, with an emphasis on empathy\, transcendence and obsessive detail. He frequently works collaboratively with musicians\, theater performers\, other artists and activist campaigns. He is a founding member of the international Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative\, and co-author of the book Paths Toward Utopia: Graphic Explorations of Everyday Anarchism (w/ Cindy Milstein\, PM Press\, 2012). Current projects include the Ominous Cloud Ensemble\, an ever-evolving\, collectively-improvising large ensemble for projections and music. \nPalestinian musician Huda Asfour was born in Lebanon to a family of musicians\, Asfour grew up in Tunis before moving to Gaza at 14\, where she joined the National Conservatory of Music\, and then lived in Ramallah in the occupied West Bank\, where she studied under Khaled Jubran at the Edward Said Music Conservatory. She now divides her time between New York and Egypt. \nGolem Ensemble: \nTroy\, NY-based artist Nathan Meltz presents The Golem Trilogy\, a 30-minute stop-motion animation with a live-scoring ensemble. \nIn this animation\, collaged robotic humanoids and animals in a sci-fi environment are blended with elements of experimental film and expressionistic\, moody graphics to tell a story in three parts exploring the concepts of colonization\, violence\, resistance\, and peace-making. The live-scoring ensemble consists of lap-steel guitarist Steve Hammond of several popular upstate New York bands and Raven Chacon’s Lazyhorse project\, bassist Adam Elabd of the Arabic improvisational project Abu Zeyn\, guitarist Mark Wolfe\, and Meltz on drums/percussion. \nAs individual components\, parts of the Golem Trilogy have screened internationally\, at festivals including the Hallucinea Film Festival in Paris\, France\, the 24Frame Future Film Fest\, in Bologna\, Italy\, the T-Short Film Festival\, in Karlsruhe\, Germany\, the West Kortright Center Film Festival\,in West Kortright\, New York\, on TV/Film\, PBS-WMHT’s Upstate New York Independent Film Series\, and the Electric Dreams Festival in Milan\, Italy\, where The Golem Smashes All Walls won the Special Jury Mention Award. \nDani Dobkin & Matt Sargent: \nDani Dobkin is a New York City based sound artist\, composer and educator currently working within the means of sound\, synthesis and ceramics. DESCRIPTION:Horse Lords were founded in Baltimore\, Maryland in 2010; they evolved from the experimental collective Teeth Mountain and began as a trio with drummer Sam Haberman\, guitarist Owen Gardner\, and bassist Max Eilbacher\, soon adding alto saxophonist Andrew Bernstein to the core ensemble. Though Horse Lords grew out of the fertile Baltimore noise and leftfield rock scene\, a storied environment for artists and weirdos that has nurtured many an influential outsider band (Lungfish\, Matmos)\, their approach is more omnivorous than the stippled rhythms of instrumental electric rock would indicate. \nAcross sixteen years of frequent touring\, Horse Lords have released ten studio\, live\, and collaboration albums in addition to a split EP with fellow Baltimoreans Lower Dens\, a handful of singles and compilation tracks. For RVNG’s FRKWYS series\, the band collaborated with Berlin-based composer Arnold Dreyblatt\, a onetime student of La Monte Young and Pauline Oliveros whose just intonation chamber music was a crucial part of the post-Fluxus Downtown New York City environment. \nWith the relocation of three of the four members to Germany beginning in 2021\, the potential for more further creative exploration\, and performance opportunities including the Moers Festival (with an 11-piece lineup\, interpreting Julius Eastman’s music as well as their own)\, the interdisciplinary phases of the band’s music was poised for fascinating new directions. The band observes “We are always trying to balance working within the limitations of the quartet and pushing beyond them. \nFor their second studio album on RVNG Intl.\, Demand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive!\, Horse Lords have followed this notion and augmented the instrumentation\, expanding the format slightly to include bass clarinetist Madison Greenstone (TAK Ensemble)\, trombonist Weston Olencki (Nate Wooley\, RAGE Thormbones) and vocalists Nina Guo (Departure Duo) and Evelyn Saylor (Holly Herndon\, Caterina Barbieri) across a program of twelve original compositions. \nDemand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive! is a reference to a line in a poem by Russian Futurist writer Vladimir Myakovsky\, and the band have also name-checked the Bauhaus weaver Anni Albers (wife of painter Josef Albers)\, Islamic geometrical patterning\, Dutch avant-garde group the Maciunas Ensemble (themselves named after Fluxus artist and typographer George Maciunas)\, composer/writers Tom Johnson\, Henry Flynt and Catherine Christer Hennix\, and musically draw from sources as diverse as Roscoe Holcolmb\, James Brown\, Kuwaiti/Bahraini sawt\, and electronic composers Maryanne Amacher and Jaap Vink. \nAs the members are keen to point out\, Demand To Be Taken To Heaven Alive! is “a bid for the flattening of time and perception in favor of greater goods [and] the iterative nature of reaching/building a paradise in this life\, not the next\,” and the new album at hand is an illuminating starting point for eternal nowness. \n\n\n\nCategory\n\nPerformance\n\n\n\nVenue\nSolar Myth\n1131 S. DESCRIPTION:We are presenting a series of free\, en-plain air public performances which tap into the unique musical forms of Creative Music (a genre rooted in Philadelphia history through John Coltrane and Sun Ra) and Free Improvisation. These performances will be at Christ Church Gardens.  \nFollow @PeoplesMusicSupply on instagram for up to date performance info\, sign up for our email list\, and check out the event schedule at PeoplesMusicSupply.org Infra Dig is a new trio consisting of Bert Harris (bass)\, Rob Paul (percussion)\, and Thomas Patteson (alto saxophone). Taking inspiration from jazz\, creative music\, and global traditions\, their improvisations seek to map out possible worlds of sound and spirit\, from zero gravity to cosmic grooves \n \nBert Harris is an electric bass guitarist and upright bassist who is at home in several genres of music. Current projects include The Afrojazz Collective\, Gumbo Nouveau\, Naru\, String Theory\, Reggae Thunder\, Phillyska Jazz Quartet\, RK$TDY\, Philly Gumbo and Infra Dig. Bert has recorded two CDs with Philadelphia jazz legend Byard Lancaster (Pam Africa and Ancestral Link Hotel). With Philly Gumbo he can be heard on their extended 45 RPM Holy War and their CD Come and Get It. His most recent recording is on Gumbo Nouveau’s CD Seasoned. Bert’s playing ranges from straight ahead jazz\, to reggae\, Cape jazz\, ska\, and free jazz  and his original compositions incorporate those genres. \n \n \nRob Paul writes: I discovered the joy and magic of playing music in high school. I feel fortunate to have grown up in Philadelphia\, where I was exposed to the beauty of jazz and avant garde music. When I was 22\, I became a high school English teacher\, and I am proud to be teaching in the Philadelphia School district 26 years later. This work pulled me away from playing music\, because of the deep commitment I developed for helping young people in my city. My passion for music never dissipated\, and I was hopeful to rejoin the music community in Philadelphia later on. I am forever grateful for the transformative musical mentorship and close friendship I have with legendary jazz saxophonist Bobby Zankel. Bobby has reignited my passion for playing music! I am inspired by mindful artists who love to listen and improvise. Let’s play together sometime. \n \n \nThomas Patteson leads a double life as musician and musicologist. He has explored electronic music through his solo project Notions Department and his book Instruments for New Music (University of California Press\, 2016) on the history of experimental sound technologies in the early 20th century. Since 2019\, he has been performing improvised music with Aaron Pond in the shape-shifting duo project Argyle Torah. In 2021 Thomas began playing the saxophone\, inspired primarily by Ornette Coleman and Kadri Gopalnath. He recently completed The Museum of Imaginary Musical Instruments (Reaktion Books\, 2026)\, and is translating a historical study of improvisation practices in European music. Thomas is a Lecturer in Music at UPenn and Vice President of People’s Music Supply.  \n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Untethered (Paul Giess/Grant Calvin Weston/Timothy Ragsdale) \nUntethered is a collective led by Paul Giess (Ropeadope) playing what their drummer\, Grant Calvin Weston (Ornette Coleman\, John Medeski\, Vernon Reid) calls “Spontaneous Creative Composition”. Their most recent album “Grasping for the Moon” was featured as album of the Day on Bandcamp in August 2025. Peter Margasak writes for Bandcamp Daily – “the music is in constant flux\, opening up and tightening\, cooling down and catching fire\, riding stasis and exploding with hyperactive motion.” The group plays a genre crossing style of improvisation that holds a deep pocketed funk next to intimate chamber music and the raw energy of a punk band next to a sensitive ballad. \naccessibility: street level entrance to venue but two steps to restroom. \npeople who pay $25 will receive a free cd-r of a previous show.

SUMMARY:Alash
DESCRIPTION:Alash: \nAlash are masters of Tuvan throat singing (xöömei)\, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. What distinguishes this trio from earlier generations of Tuvan throat singers is the subtle infusion of modern influences into their traditional music. One can find complex harmonies\, western instruments\, and contemporary song forms in Alash’s music\, but its overall sound and spirit remain decidedly Tuvan. Trained in traditional Tuvan music since childhood\, and trained by legendary Tuvan musician Kongar-ool Ondar\, the Alash musicians studied at Kyzyl Arts College just as Tuva was beginning to open up to the West. They formed a traditional ensemble and won multiple awards for traditional throat singing in international xöömei competitions\, both as an ensemble and as individuals. At the same time\, they paid close attention to new trends coming out of the West. They have borrowed new ideas that mesh well with the sound and feel of traditional Tuvan music\, but they have never sacrificed the integrity of their own heritage in an effort to make their music more hip. \naccessibility: ramp into lobby\, then 7 stairs into theater

DESCRIPTION:Presented in Collaboration with Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture \nAmir ElSaffar & Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch: Inner Spaces \nTrumpeter\, santur player\, vocalist\, and composer Amir ElSaffar joins electronics performer and composer Lorenzo Bianchi-Hoesch in a new project exploring electro-acoustic spaces\, maqam\, microtonal harmonies\, and improvised and composed structures in a modular musical composition that accommodates a variety of musical styles across genres. Together\, they create an immersive sound that transcends notions of form\, musical language\, electronic\, and acoustic categories in music. This new work will be a modular composition combining pre-determined structural elements with freely improvised sections\, played live by ElSaffar and Bianchi-Hoesch. The work will explore electro-acoustic spaces in a microtonal environment that embraces the sonic spectra of multiple musical languages. \nBianchi-Hoesch and ElSaffar are interested in creating a trans-cultural collaboration combining jazz\, contemporary classical music\, maqam\, raga\, and other musical backgrounds\, inclusive of all the richness\, complexity\, and idiomatic expression\, without compromising or oversimplifying in order to be compatible with others. They are in search of boundary-less spaces in music. \naccessibility: located on the second floor up two flights of stairs.

SUMMARY:Ak'chamel & Ecology : Homestones
DESCRIPTION:Ak’chamel: \nHoned and expanded through their travels\, Ak’chamel’s singular sound comprising desert-scorched psychedelia\, post-apocalyptic shamanism\, and bizarre ritual folk is as unique as the physical theater of their otherworldly live performances. Dug up from the ground\, beamed down from the heavens\, or entirely conjured out of the human imagination\, there’s no sure fire way to know the true origins of Ak’chamel. What we do know is that this trio create a vibe that is uniquely theirs. \nEcology : HomeStones \nNow\, I know this sounds silly\, but Ecology: HomeStones is about carrots. Hopefully this will make that clear for everyone. Beginning in 1778 a competitive gnome named Cheapskate initiated a Campaign of Torment upon 8 very sleepy carrot farmers\, all of whom were coincidentally named Robert. This playful assault fell upon the Roberts in the form of 8 violence based challenges. The winner would be crowned as the Bride of Ouchie. For the rest\, an eternity of unimaginable wickedness. Imagine—a long wet floor of endless tile\, the grout lousy with the Innumerable Crawling Misfortunes of Birthday. No one likes it. Secrets were kept. The true nature and rule structure of the gnome’s competitions were a mystery to everyone but the gnome. Because of this advantage (and the gnome’s four black peppercorn eyes which control the shape and temperature of salt) the gnome\, Cheapskate\, obliterated the Roberts. Now\, at least two years later or maybe three or something\, a different thing is happening and it is tangentially related to that other stuff I said. You need to know this. Didn’t your friends tell you? You see\, there’s something out to get you\, and it’s just as stupid as you are. \nvenue is wheelchair accessible.

SUMMARY:Bow and Arrow (Lea Bertucci + Michael Behari) & Angel Meat (Anna Young + Myles Donovan)
DESCRIPTION:Bow and Arrow (Lea Bertucci & Michael Behari): \nBow and Arrow is the newly formed duo project of experimental composer Lea Bertucci (voice\, electronics\, flutes) and virtuoso guitarist Michael Beharie. This project takes cues from the obscure corners of western early music\, flamenco\, folk traditions and contemporary experimental music. Bow and Arrow is devotional music for the age of alienation. \nLea Bertucci is an experimental musician whose works revolve around electronic and spatial extensions of instrument and voice. In addition to her longstanding practice performing with woodwinds\, she has created compositions for strings\, brass\, percussion and other instruments\, often incorporating electronics and multichannel sound. With an ear toward site-responsiveness and acoustics\, her work has expanded toward installation and non-linear presentations of her music\, often staged in hyper-resonant spaces. \nHer discography spans over a decade\, with eight full-length solo albums and a number of collaborative projects. She has released on a number of labels including Astral Spirits\, Room40\, American Dreams and Dinzu Artefacts. In 2018 and 2019\, she released solo albums Metal Aether and Resonant Field on NNA Tapes\, and has since founded her own label\, Cibachrome Editions\, with 2021’s A Visible Length of Light as the inaugural release. Recent collaborations include duos with Lawrence English\, Olivia Block\, Carlos Giffoni and Ben Vida\, among others. \nMichael Beharie is a musician based in New York City. His music sits at the imagined intersection between sound system culture\, pop transmission and free improvisation. \nAngel Meat (Anna Young & Myles Donovan): \nHarsh Thanatology? Post Opera? Or maybe just a Maria Callas tape eating itself alive while drinking cough syrup. Regardless\, Angel Meat is a duo from Philadelphia consisting of vocalist Anna Young (Layer Meat/Hermit High Priestess) and harpist Myles Donovan (Disemballerina/Narco Medusa/A stick and a stone) accompanied by a chaotic pet poltergeist of electro acoustic feedback. Part improv\, part song. Part structure\, part disintegration. Movements of decay\, movements of recovery. Spiritual exorcism\, shaking the bars of its fleshy prison. Authentic Queers and Phony virgins. Rising from the ashes of Antigone. Ultimately\, we’re all just Angel Meat as far as mortality goes\, and we thank you for being here. \naccessibility: street level entrance to venue but two steps to restroom.
